On Friday, I was delighted to receive my Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning (and therefore the addition of some new letters after my name!). This is the qualification required to be a Chartered Financial Planner, a goal I have been working hard towards since I started with FPWM.
As someone who is relatively new to the industry, the advanced diploma has helped accelerate my professional development and technical knowledge. I personally feel the combination of technical learning and the practical experience of working alongside two highly experienced and knowledgeable advisers has been a huge contributor to my progress to date. I am excited to see what the future holds for me in an industry I love working in!
The advanced diploma consists of fourteen exams that cover all areas of financial advice including taxation, investments, pensions, protection, and regulation as well as some specialist areas: equity release, long term care fee planning and discretionary management. You are also required to have five years’ experience within the profession, so now to wait until August 2021 for my fifth anniversary, when I can officially call myself ‘Chartered’.
The advanced diploma is awarded by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) which is an internationally recognised body and the recommended study time to complete the advanced diploma is around 600 hours.
Many thanks to Alistair and Ian for their ongoing support throughout this process – next and final stop Chartered Fellowship! I look forward to helping more individuals achieve their financial goals.
